A bit of history

The Walters family have been at Bower Farm for nearly 100 years.  Phillip and Julia started the business at Warren Farm, Streatley and now rear the turkeys at Bower Farm, Aldworth, Berkshire, adjacent to the famous Ridgeway path.  It's very much a family run business, with everyone helping out.

Our Turkeys

We produce Traditional Farm Fresh White Turkeys and Free Range Bronze Turkeys and this year for the first time we are producing some Organic Free Range Bronze Turkeys too.  We rear our turkeys to the Golden promise standard set by the Traditional Farmfresh Turkey Association. We buy them in early so they reach full maturity naturally before they are killed.  They are not fed any growth promoters.  We believe our turkeys are full of flavour and very moist due to the traditional methods used to prepare the turkeys.  We dry pluck our turkeys and they are hand finished and then hung for at least 7 days.  All are fed on home grown cereals and soya.  The turkeys are killed and processed on the farm with minimising their stress a priority.

The Traditional Farm Fresh White Turkeys are reared in large straw bedded yards and enjoy natural ventilation and light.

The Free Range Bronze Turkeys are housed in portable buildings and roam on traditional downland meadows.

The Organic Free Range Bronze Turkeys are reared on a local farm and fed locally produced feed.  These have been certified by the Soil Association.
